Most Punjab PCS aspirants prepare from UPSC material and bolt on a bit of state current affairs at the end. That gets you through the national portions reasonably well — and leaves the Punjab-specific sections, which appear in nearly every paper, thin. Below is the full PPSC syllabus broken into its actual sub-topics, with every state-specific line marked Punjab-specific so you can see exactly how much of this exam is really about the state you're applying to serve.

08How it all adds up
Unlike UPSC, PPSC has no optional subject — every candidate is examined on the same General Studies papers.
- Don't treat "Punjab section" as an afterthought. It isn't confined to one line item — it recurs across Prelims GS, and Mains Papers I and III. Added up, it's a meaningful share of the exam.
- The Punjabi and English papers count. Unlike UPSC's qualifying-only language papers, these 200 marks go straight into your merit rank — they're worth real preparation time, not last-minute practice.
- Problem-Solving & Decision-Making has no UPSC equivalent. If you're studying primarily from UPSC material, this is the one full section you need to build from scratch.
- Use the overlap deliberately. The national GS content is close enough to UPSC's that one strong revision cycle can serve both exams — but only if you add the Punjab-specific layer on top, not instead of it.
